Word Parts Weekly - Week 19

Word Parts Flashcard for Week 19

"Prefixes, suffixes, and roots are the essential building blocks of all words. Teaching prefixes and suffixes help students understand the meaning behind different vocabulary words and students that learn prefixes have the capabilities of breaking down unfamiliar words into segments that are easily understood, learning new words becomes simpler." - EduNova

Word Parts Weekly

“Ninety-seven percent of the words that students will encounter as they read will come from the 30 most commonly used prefixes, 30 most commonly used root words, and the 30 most commonly used suffixes. A strategic focus on providing students, grades kindergarten to grade 12, to curriculum-driven opportunities to learn Latin and Greek word parts will invariably build students’ vocabulary and ability to create meaning while they read.” - Dr. Donyall Dickey

While many lists of word parts (prefixes, suffixes, and root words) exist, I am using the Word Parts List curated by Dr. Donyall Dickey in his book, "The Integrated Approach to Student Achievement," for this series.
