The Science of Reading: What EdLeaders Need to Know

Cory Armes, in the Science of Learning Blog, stated, "The term “science of reading” refers to the research that reading experts, especially cognitive scientists, have conducted on how we learn to read. This body of knowledge, over twenty years in the making, has helped debunk older methods of reading instruction that were based on tradition and observation, not evidence."

The question for EdLeaders, in a world of an overflowing Inbox, constant phone calls, and a myriad of decisions to be made is quite simple when it comes to The Science of Reading, "What do I need to know?"

I have set a personal goal to dig into and break down each of the elements of reading comprehension through the lens of the Science of Reading. Join me on this journey as I peel apart the strands of Scarborough's Reading Rope to understand what we need to know.
