EdLeader Podcast - We Can Do Amazing Things with Principal Jessica Emory
In this episode, Dr. Jackson sits down with 2020-2021 Carteret County Public Schools Principal of the Year to discuss the reopening of schools during the ongoing pandemic. Opening a new school year in 2020 is anything but routine. Literally every process in the school, from how to board buses, to how to walk down the hallway, to the scheduling of instruction, has been drastically changed. For an EdLeader there is no more important responsibility than keeping students and staff members safe. Mrs. Emory is leading her team in accomplishing amazing things in a school that radiates joy and positivity. Teachers are being asked to teach in a hybrid model with some students attending in person and others attending virtually. Despite the challenges, teachers and staff at Beaufort Middle School are charging forward, smiling behind their masks, happy to again welcome students into the classroom.
Mrs. Emory has led her school through incredible academic gains while negotiating major hurricanes in back-to-back years and the tragic death of a student by suicide. The school family has emerged from those challenges stronger than ever and brings that strength to the current challenge.
Mrs. Emory taught Middle School Language Arts and Science prior to becoming an Assistant Principal and then Principal in Wake County Public Schools in Raleigh, NC. In 2017, she joined the Carteret County Public Schools team. She earned her Masters Degree in Educational Administration at NC State University and her undergraduate degree at Gordon College in Massachusetts.
